This plaque memorializes USAF Captain Randy D. Roby
and Civilian Geraldine Marie Vering.
Captain Roby died when he ejected too late while attempting to steer
his disabled U-2 reconnaissance aircraft away from homes and land in
the wilderness area of the Feather River. Ms. Vering was killed by
falling aircraft debris in the parking lot of the Oroville Mercury-Register newspaper
building on 2nd Street near Grand Avenue.
The Oroville community is grateful to CalFire and Fire Chief George Morris for the placement of this plaque at the corner of Nelson Avenue and Del Oro Avenue in Thermalito, California.
