Thermalito Airman Buddies Visit Here
Cpl. George W. Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Scott of Thermalito,
with two other Air force corporals, Dick Meindertsma, Grand Rapids,
Mich., and Kenny Rickless, of Censor, Ia. are spending the holidays
with Scott’s parents in Thermalito. The three, with Scott’s father
and brothers, have been spending their leave duck hunting. The three
airmen are from Travis Air Force Base, but have just returned from
Guam. They are with the 9th Maintenance squadron. All have been
in the Air Force for two years. Oroville Mercury Register December
26, 1952 Two Air Force Women Visit Here For Holidays A-3C Donna
Beardsley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Beardsley of Montgomery
Street and A-3C Patricia Click of San Jose have arrived by plane
to spend the holidays at the Beardsley home. Both girls joined the
Air Force following their graduation in June and took their basic
training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Tex. They were
then sent to Chanute Air Force Base in Ill. where they became friends
and have just completed a 16 weeks course in weather observation.
Miss Beardsley and Miss Click are now enroute to Hamilton Air Force
Base at San Rafael where they will put into practice the training
they have received. They will report for duty January 7.

Hold Rites Friday For Accident Victim
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30p.m. from the Gridley
Funeral Chapel for Eugene Upton, 23, who was killed in an automobile
accident near Madera on December 21. Mr. Upton was born in Texas
and had lived in Gridley for 12 years, having been educated in the
schools there. He spent four years in the U. S. Navy and had been
in the Army for 18 months prior to his death. He leaves his wife,
Fay, of Fresno; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Upton, of Gridley;
six brothers, Omer, Claude, Dewey and Don all of Gridley, Ely, of
Firebaugh, and Charles who is in the Army in France; and five sisters,
Mrs. Martha Glover and Mrs. Hilda Watson, of Gridley, Mrs. Juanita
Bean and Mrs. Lois Jenkins of Firebaugh and Mrs. Polly Lockhart,
of Lodi. Burial will be in the Gridley Biggs Cemetery where the
American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct graveside
rites.

Pat Biffle, USAF, Visiting Parents
A-B Pat Biffle of the United States Air Force, stationed at Scott
Air Force Base, Ill., arrived home today for the holidays to visit
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Biffle of Garden Ranch. Miss Biffle
joined the Air Force in June, following her graduation from Oroville
Union High school and completed her basic training at Lackland Air
Force Base in San Antonio, Tex. From there she was transferred to
Scott Air Force Base to specialize in 32 weeks course in radio maintenance
work. She is the only girl in a class of 14 students, and must report
back to her base January 5th.

2012. Under the guidance of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1747,
Commander John Archibald, a Men’s Auxiliary Post #1747 Veterans
of Foreign Wars of the United States, Department of California,
was created to be known as Men’s Auxiliary to Oroville Post #1747
Veterans of Foreign Wars. I joined under and in honor of my daughter,
California National Guard Staff Sgt. Deborah Jean Shaner, Retired.
She is a member of VFW #1747. Men may join this Men’s Auxiliary,
if you are a husband, widower, father, grandfather, son, grandson,
brother and half brothers of persons who were or are eligible for
membership in The Veterans’ of Foreign Wars of the United States
and are at least 16 years old. If you are interested call me and
I will give you John’s number. We elected our president, Paul Wright
tonight. John Archibald has just been appointed as National Aide-de-camp
to Commander In Chief John Hamilton of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
