BANGOR News
Jim Campa of Nevada is in Bangor acting as ranch foreman
for his aunt, Mrs. Ynenocencia Campa, during hay season. The Bangor

of graceful bouquets and sprays with the serene background of pine

1031 Veterans Home from War
San Francisco-U.P.)- Making their last “beachhead” of the
war, 1031 veterans of the Pacific War theater landed here today
as the first contingent to return home under the army’s point system.
Many of the men had fought the Japanese from Attu to Okinawa.
Stu’s Notes: Theodore Clyde Martin, at this point we don’t know
if he ever lived in Butte County but we will surly do our best to
find out.
The war in Europe is over in a few days, America and Russia are
capturing German prison camps, the men will soon be home, some from
Oroville also. Young Joseph F. Cline might have made it to the war
as the B29’s Flew mostly over Japan, and the fighting there was
to go on for 2 more months. And a B-29 leaving Kansas with a few
stops could be over Japan within a few days. In fact the above paper
had headlines Kobe Punished by Great B-29 raid 500 fortresses sweep
over 6th city of Japan. Sadly the powers that be in Japan still
would not surrender which lead to two really big bombs early in
August 1945. I think the Emperor could have stopped it but he didn’t
and his people died.
Get your Motorcycle tuned up, you too Harley Man. For the third
time The Oroville Veterans Memorial Park Committee and Feather Falls
Casino is putting on a motorcycle rally and poker run, 117 miles
of fun through the scenic Sierra foothills. All proceeds go to build
the Oroville Veterans Memorial for all of Butte County.
Feather Falls Casino has helped to build our memorial from the very
start over 9 years ago. Seems like a long time but it gets better
with time, as we are still finding men who died from or in Butte
County. Last, but far from least, mark you calendars, Sept 17th,
for POW/MIA Recognition Day, on the steps of The Veterans Memorial
Hall. Stay Tuned.
