Pfc. Harry Daniel Sarakov May 10, 1950 - May 15, 1969 Paradise Harry Sarakov’s mother said her son had a penchant for mechanics and intended to go into drafting. The principal of Sierra Christian Academy in Durham—where Sarakov graduated from in 1968—called him “a brilliant student.” Sarakov was one of four original students at the school. Less than two months after graduation Harry Sarakov enlisted in the Marine Corps. After basic and advanced training in San Diego and at Camp Pendleton, the Paradise man at the beginning of March 1969 was transferred to Vietnam. Although his primary job was an ammunition carrier, Sarakov, his mother said, also volunteered for sniper duty. He was on a “special mission” near Danang on May 15, 1969—five days after his 19th birthday—when he was shot in the head and killed. Chico News & Review, May 26, 1988
