Spec. 4 James Willie Roy Ill

Aug. 30. 1947 - Jan. 4, 1968

Oroville

James Roy’s wife was pregnant with his daughter the day he was killed on a search and destroy mission. Roy, who moved with his Family to Oroville in 1964, graduated from Las Plumas High School in June 1966. His senior year he held a number of part-time jobs but still found time for his hobby, square dancing, with his wife as favorite partner.

Two months after high school graduation Roy was married, and in September, faced with a draft notice, he enlisted in the Army.

After basic and paratrooper training, Roy shipped out to Vietnam in December 1967 with the 101st Airborne Infantry Division. He died on Jan, 4, 1968.

His daughter is now 20 years old.
