Pfc. Larry William Liss April 7, 1949-Mar. 7, 1969 Oroville A lifetime resident of Butte County, Larry Lisa graduated from Oroville High School in 1967 and went to work for a logging company, cutting and bucking trees: He enlisted in the Marines in December 1967 and in June 1968 was shipped to Vietnam. On Feb. 25. 1969, his firebase near Danang was attacked by mortars, grenades and satchel charges When it was discovered the communication wires were damaged, Liss, disregarding nearby exploding rounds, went to fix them. A satchel charge blew up near him, mutilating his legs with shrapnel. Liss continued to repair the damaged lines. The 19-year-old Marine was later transferred to the Navy hospital ship USS Sanctuary. He died aboard the ship on Mar. 7, 1969 Chico News & Review, May 26, 1988
